Martins blow past Islanders in non-league game

GAYLORD – The Gaylord Islanders’ defense was no match for the Fairmont Martins’ offense on Friday night as the Martins rolled to a 13-2 win in a non-league amateur baseball game at ,

The Martins, who prepare before their final regular season game this Wednesday, moved to 14-3 on the year with the win.

Jon Traetow was 2 for 5 with a three-run home run to center field to lead the Martins, while

Spencer Chirpich added a hit, an RBI and drew three walks. Luke Becker was 3 for 5 with three RBIs, Levi Becker added a hit and two RBIs and Arnaldo Malave had an RBI. Fairmont had 15 hits, with eight batters walked and only two strikeouts.

Jack Hested pitched for five innings for the Martins, only giving up six hits and two runs with five strikeouts before Traetow took over on the mound, pitching one inning with one strikeout and one walk. Levi Becker closed out the game on the mound with two strikeouts.

“It was a clean game all the way around,” Levi Becker said. “Good pitching, defense and timely hitting, with the middle of the order combining for eight RBIs.”
