Man arrested after allegedly driving drunk, shooting at north Phoenix business
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man faces several charges after police say he damaged several vehicles and a business in an alleged drunk-driving shooting incident.
Phoenix police said the incident began Friday night around 9:45 p.m. when a drunk driver was reported near 7th Street and Coral Gables. The driver was reportedly involved in multiple collisions, causing damage to other vehicles.
As officers were responding, police said the same driver was reported to have exchanged shots with an unknown person in the area, and then left the neighborhood. People in a nearby business reported that their building was shot at by the driver of a vehicle with a similar description.
Police then found the suspect vehicle with extensive damage, making it disabled. Documents say the man, later identified as 48-year-old David Pearce, refused to listen to officers’ commands, so the Special Assignments Unit responded with a tactical approach.
Less lethal options were used, and Pearce was arrested, police said.
Pearce faces felony charges including aggravated assault, discharging a firearm at a non-residential structure, resisting arrest and DUI. A mugshot for him was not immediately available.
