Travel delays expected due to Falmouth Bridge lane closures – Fredericksburg Free Press

Drivers can expect daytime travel delays on Route 1 at the Falmouth Bridge over the Rappahannock River between Stafford County and Fredericksburg on both Monday and Tuesday, weather permitting.

On Monday, there will be northbound and southbound single-lane closures from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Tuesday, a single northbound lane will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation are continuing bridge inspection work to gather information needed for a future maintenance project of Falmouth Bridge. A major rehabilitation project is currently in the design phase to improve the bridge’s condition.

Built in 1943, the Falmouth Bridge carries an average of 38,000 vehicles per day, according to recent traffic counts.
