Undefeated World Champion Warns Manny Pacquiao ‘Stay Out Of My Way’: “He’s A Good Name To Beat” – Seconds Out
Manny Pacquiao looks set to return to the ring at 45-years-old to face newly-elevated WBC Welterweight World Champion Mario Barrios.
The sanctioning body are behind the bout in theory, provided the Filipino legend can pass medical checks and despite him being inactive since a bruising loss to Yordenis Ugas back in 2021.
The lure of a world title seems to be the driving force for Pacquiao, who has had bigger name bouts on offer in the last few years. Should he follow through with the plans and beat Barrios, he would break his own record as the oldest champion in the division.
After Terence Crawford decided to move up to 154, the welterweight belts were scattered and another man who benefited was Jaron Ennis. ‘Boot’s is undoubtedly the man to beat in the division, and he recently discussed Pacquiao’s comeback with Fight Hub TV.
“I don’t know how Pacquiao coming back and getting a world title shot, but I really don’t care. As long as I can get my hands on those other belts, be able to unify and be undisputed, I really don’t care what’s going on. I think that’s crazy he’s coming back, I mean it’s a good name to have on your resume. As long as he ain’t in my way. If he get the belt, he get the belt.”
There is a scenario that ‘Boot’s could unify against Pacquiao if he wins the WBC belt from Barrios, but the return fight is unlikely to be that start of another proper run in the sport and more a one-off, meaning the Philly native, undefeated in 32, could fight someone for the vacant belt.
Although he has a clear goal to be undisputed champion at welterweight, he is also considering a move up to 154 to face Crawford having missed the opportunity in his current division.
