Out There With 12 Sports: Fairfield Polo Club

HAYSVILLE, Kan. (KWCH) – The sport of polo is played by just roughly 25,000 people worldwide, but the Fairfield Polo Club in Haysville, Kansas, is a hotbed for some of the best in the country.

The club has been around since the 1930s and is home to some of the best college and professional players from Argentina and far beyond.

Polo is a ball game played on horseback and is one of the world’s oldest team sports. The objective is to use a long wooden mallet to hit a ball through the opposing team’s goal and is played 4-on-4.

“This is a historic club. This has been around since the ‘30s. Fairfield Polo Club is one of the oldest clubs in the country. People don’t realize it would be here in Kansas,” said the club’s owner, Courtney Darrah. “We’re from all over. We have a couple Argentines playing with us right now. We have a couple of arena college students. One of our players plays for Colorado State’s team, so she’s here playing with us this summer. We’re having a great time with her.”
