Winners on the road

Against Oakfield, Lake Linden’s Payton Goldworthy got the start for the Heartbreaks, going three innings in the pitcher’s circle. She struck out six, gave up two hits and one run with no walks.

At the plate, she went 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored.

As a team, the Heartbreakers scored four runs in the first inning, seven more in the second, then four more in the fourth to seal the win.

Escanaba jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Anna Martin grounded out, scoring one run. Avery Fisher grounded out, scoring one run, and Bella Noblet singled, scoring two runs.

In the bottom of the second, Escanaba had just two hits, but managed to strike seven times. Ava Hanford drew a walk, scoring one run, Martin grounded out, scoring two runs. Hanford scored after tagging up. A wild pitch scored one run. Finally, Eden Rische tripled, scoring two runs.

Emma Parlato pitched one inning of zero-run ball for the Heartbreakers in relief of Goldsworthy. She surrendered one hit, striking out none and walking one.

In total, Escanaba amassed eight hits in the game. Rische, Abby Derkos, and Noblet each collected two hits. Rische, Martin, and Noblet each drove in three runs.

Parlato led the team with three walks. Overall, they had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game.

Derkos also stole two bases in the contest.

In the second game against Suburban Athletics, Parlato got the start in the circle, going three innings and surrendering three hits and four runs, two of which were earned. Goldsworthy stepped in to relieve her and she struck out five over two innings while giving up two hits and two runs in the loss.

At the plate, Goldsworthy went 1-for-2.

Derkos scored the lone run for the Heartbreakers in the top of the first inning. She drew a walk and scored two batters later, when Martin hit a fly ball and reached first on a defensive error, she scored from third base.

Suburban Athletics scored four runs in the bottom of the first and did not add to their total again until the fourth, but that was enough to hold off Escanaba.

In their third game on Saturday, Goldsworthy sparked the Heartbreakers’ offense with a pair of home runs, finishing the game with five RBI as Escanaba cruised to the win in just two innings.

Goldsworthy hit her first home run in the first inning as an inside-the-park home run, which scored two runs. Her second came in the second inning, and also came as an inside-the-park play that scored three runs.

Escanaba jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Martin doubled, scoring two runs, Fisher singled, scoring one, and Goldsworthy hit her home run.

In the second inning, the Heartbreakers scored 13 times.

Ava Hanford grounded out, scoring one run. An error scored another. Goldsworthy hit her second inside-the-park home run, scoring three.

Rische singled, scoring one run. Gabby Parlato singled, scoring one run. Hanford singled, scoring two more. An error scored one run. Emma Parlato singled to score two runs. Finally, Fisher singled, scoring one final run.

While Goldsworthy was outstanding at the plate with her bat, she was equally good in the pitcher’s circle. She held the Bulldogs to no hits in two innings of work, striking out four.

Escanaba tallied 15 hits in the game. Derkos, Martin, Fisher, Emma Parlato, Noblet, and Goldsworthy each collected two hits.
