How To Watch Sport Climbing At The 2024 Paris Olympics
The Paris 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony is on Friday, July 26, with many events kicking off the following morning. But fans of sport climbing will have to wait a bit longer to see those events at the Games.
Sport climbing at the Paris Games—which is separated into two disciplines, speed and boulder/lead combined—begins on Monday, August 5, with semifinal and qualification events.
The women’s speed final and men’s speed final will be held August 7 and August 8, respectively. The men’s and women’s combined (boulder and lead) finals are on August 9 and August 10, respectively.
At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, speed, boulder and lead climbing were all combined into a single event. However, few climbers compete across these disparate disciplines; to wit, none of the climbers who have qualified for Paris 2024 will compete in speed and combined.
The U.S. has qualified a full eight athlete quota spots for sport climbing—more than any other nation. Two climbers, Colin Duffy and Brooke Raboutou, competed in Tokyo, and the other six U.S. climbers are first-time Olympians.
