Lincoln County Fair’s 4-H Fashion Review and Clothing Construction Judging Day teaches life skills to participants

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – The 4-H Fashion Review and Clothing Construction Judging Day saw many entries Tuesday afternoon.

The event allows 4-H students to bring their static entries in front of judges. There was a wide variety of entries ranging from hand-made clothing to pillowcases, and LEGO builds to decorated cakes.

Aspiring photojournalists could enter photos for the competition. Participants with a green thumb walked away with prize-winning produce.

To the casual fair-goer, they will most likely only see the ribbons marking how favorably and entry was judged. Third year 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator Caitlyn Jacobson said there is more to this competition than ribbons.

“It’s just really fun to see different 4-Hers come in and visit with the judge, and just not only see their hard work, but just life skills, speaking skills, being able to speak eloquently about what you’ve done,” Jacobson said.

Some of the life-skills participants were taught were public speaking, basic sewing, and baking.

The entries will be on display in the Ag Activities Building on the fairgrounds for the duration of the Lincoln County Fair.
