Jayhawks Excel In Classroom

Jamestown Community College student-athletes have made names for themselves outside of their sports endeavors.

First, 33 Jayhawks have been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Academic Teams. The teams are broken down into First, Second and Third teams, with the grade demarcations being 4.0 (First Team), 3.8-3.99 (Second Team) and 3.6-3.79 (Third Team).

The Jayhawks earned eight spots on the First Team. They are Chyann Kelly, basketball; Stacey Blackler, swimming; Ella Fosberg, swimming; Kyle Camp, baseball; David Luque, soccer; Haleigha Hardy, soccer; Tamako Onoda, soccer; and Chezna Rivera, soccer.

The Jayhawks earned 11 spots on the Second Team. They are Calum Stewart, soccer, 3.95; Nkosinathi Dlamini, basketball, 393; Hyeonsang Cho, baseball, 3.92; Lindsey Spitz, swimming, 3.92; Bethan Wallace, basketball, 3.91; Jolize Beukman, soccer, 3.9; Eddie Bartoli, baseball, 3.85; Hayden Hoag, baseball, 3.84; Kaleigha Plett, basketball, 3.82; Kodi Colton, baseball, 3.82; and Matthew Bohurjak, basketball, 3.81.

The Jayhawks earned 14 spots on the Third Team. They are Oisin McGroarty soccer, 3.78; Lukas Baer, swimming, 3.78; Grace Lundmark, basketball, 3.77; Brandon Lobb, baseball, 3.77; Josh Carr, soccer 3.76; Paiden Wittmeyer, swimming, 3.75; Cassidy Vincent, volleyball, 3.74; Brady Fye, golf, 3.71; Alex Watt, soccer, 3.69; Shane Keith, soccer, 3.66; Grace Guarino, basketball, 3.65; Jacquelyn Nickerson, soccer 3.63; Athanasios Bakas, soccer, 3.63; and Jax Arcuri, baseball, 3.61.

But the above weren’t the only honors for the Jayhawks’ athletic program. Their women’s swimming and diving team earned the NJCAA Academic Team Award for the 2023-2024 athletic season.

The Jayhawks finished with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5, which is the third-best overall tem GPA for both men’s and women’s NJCAA swimming and diving programs across the country.

The group was led by Blackler and Fosberg, who both logged a 4.0 GPA, followed by Spitz with a 3.92 and Wittmeyer with 3.75. Madison Kramer’s 3.5 GPA earned her a spot on the Region 3 Academic Team.
