LFC honoured in prestigious top 10 most sustainable sports companies list – Liverpool FC

Organisations across the industry submitted applications and responded to questions about their carbon and greenhouse gas reduction, nature restoration and preservation, water conservation, waste diversion, measurement of impact and goal-setting and organisational structure and culture, and the responses were scored accordingly.

The companies with proven exceptional innovation in, and commitment to, a greener legacy for sports were selected following this competitive process.

This accolade honours and celebrates the club’s sustainability strategy, The Red Way. Since its inception in 2021, the award-winning Red Way has made a significant impact and has subsequently become the leading sustainability programme in world football.

The Red Way is integrated into every facet of the club’s operations, which enables LFC fans, staff, partners and suppliers to work together in a way that continues to harvest a meaningful impact.

Through focusing on the three pillars – people, planet and communities – The Red Way strives to achieve 14 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. In comparison to the 2021-22 season, the club has achieved a 29 per cent reduction in emissions, with 94 per cent of club emissions now running on clean energy. Additionally, plastic bottle waste recycling on matchdays has increased from 25 per cent (2021-22) to 90 per cent (2022-23).

Rishi Jain, director of impact at Liverpool FC, said: “The Red Way is an incredibly important part of everything we do at LFC.

“Being recognised globally in the top 10 most sustainable award list is a great achievement that recognises LFC’s cross-club commitment to sustainability and ensuring a positive change for our people, our planet and our communities.”

Adam White, CEO and founder of Front Office Sports, added: “It’s imperative that sports companies prioritise sustainable practices as well as use their immense platform to inspire their fans to do the same to ensure generations present and future are able to enjoy sports for a long time to come.

“This list champions the organisations using their resources to drive sustainable change. Companies on this list set an example for the industry through their transparency, waste management solutions and innovative sustainable practices.”
