Indiana Statewide Security Summit sheds light on need for cyber security jobs

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – Help wanted.

One-third of Indiana’s cyber security jobs are unfilled.

Today, the number two man at the White House Office of the National Cyber Director came to town to talk about it.

Jake Braun today spoke at the Indiana Statewide Cyber Security Summit at Notre Dame.

The office was created in 2021. In March of last year, the office issued a National Cyber Security Strategy. It calls for shifting the responsibility to defend cyberspace away from individuals who use technology to those who make the technology.

“Think of it as, I don’t want my father or my 13-year-old twins to be the single point of failure for cyber security in their lives. Where they click on one wrong thing and all the sudden all the personal data or bank information or whatever is out the window,” Braun explained.

Today’s event brought together academic, industry, and government leaders to talk about something that many don’t seem to like to talk about.  “It’s like we don’t like talking about it. We’d rather not talk about it.

Jake Braun shared his thoughts on the latest trends in cyber-attacks. “There’s been, you know, massive Ransome ware attacks against school districts, it’s really a chronic problem across the U.S. The L.A. school district systems were down for a week or two I believe and I don’t know about you all but my kids, I mean they’re entire school is now done on line.”
