Local headstone business owner again under arrest for defrauding grieving families

SAN ANTONIO – Elena Moreno, the owner of “Angelic Monuments,” a headstone business, has been arrested once again on accusations of defrauding clients by accepting payment for headstones that were never delivered.

The 47-year-old Moreno was apprehended following complaints from several families who claimed to have paid her for headstones that were never produced. According to newly revealed court documents, between the years 2020 and 2023, a total of 15 families engaged with Moreno at Angelic Monuments, entrusting her with payments totaling more than $42,000 for headstones that never materialized.

The allegations against Moreno suggest a pattern of deceptive business practices, with families left empty-handed despite their financial investments. The impact of Moreno’s actions extends beyond mere monetary loss, as families grapple with the emotional strain of not being able to properly memorialize their loved ones.

Moreno now faces charges of felony theft, reflecting the severity of the accusations leveled against her.
