Samsung mentions Exynos 2500 SoC for the very first time

Samsung has mentioned the Exynos 2500 SoC for the very first time, thus confirming it’s coming. The company did that during its Q2 2024 earnings call. The Exynos 2500 will become the company’s second 3nm chip, and it will launch this year.

Do note that the first 3nm processor is the Exynos W1000, which is not made for smartphones. The fact that Samsung confirmed this processor probably means that some Galaxy S25 series phones will end up using it.

If Samsung ends up using the same trick as in the past, units in Europe could get that chip instead of the Snapdragon alternative. However, the vast majority of other regions are expected to include the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

If we had to guess, we’d say that the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ in some markets will use that chip. The ‘Ultra’ model could once again be Snapdragon exclusive, as was the case with the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+.

Samsung will make this chip using a second-generation GAA process

Just to be clear, Samsung mentioned Exynos 2500 by name. It did also say that it will be used in “flagship products”, as expected. This chip will be made using a second-generation GAA process.

Based on reports, the Exynos 2500 will be a 10-core processor. It will include one Cortex-X5 core clocked at 3.2GHz, three Cortex-A730 cores running at 2.3-2.5GHz, two Cortex-A730 cores clocked a bit lower, and four Cortex-A520 cores.

That chip is also rumored to use Samsung’s very own Xclipse 950 GPU. That GPU is actually based on AMD’s RDNA3 architecture, in case you were wondering.

It’s not exactly a secret Samsung had some issues with Exynos chips in the past. They were not able to match their Snapdragon counterparts. It remains to be seen what will happen this time around.
