Pitt Travels to No. 6 Clemson for ACC Clash – Pitt Panthers #H2P

PITTSBURGH – The Panthers travel to Clemson, SC to take on the No. 6 ranked Tigers. 

The last time these two programs met, in 2022, Pitt swept Clemson in a two-game series that was shortened due to weather. Pitt won a game but lost the series the last time they visited Doug Kingsmore Stadium in 2016.

TOP OF THE ORDER

 • Pitt tied a season high with its five home runs against St. Bonaventure on Wednesday night. Josh Spiegel, Jake Kendro and Ryan Zuckerman hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the second inning. 

• First baseman Luke Cantwell currently ranks second in the ACC in on base percentage (.524) third in the ACC and tenth in the country in walks (39), third in the ACC in walks/game (1.15) and is tied for ninth in the ACC in HBPs (8).

• The Panthers scored six unanswered runs in the final two innings to defeat No. 7 Duke last Sunday afternoon.

 • Phil Fox has emerged as Pitt’s go-to late-inning arm out of the bullpen. He has appeared in 14 games and has given

up just four runs. Fox is 3-2 with three saves and a 1.50 ERA.

• Dom Popa is off to the best start of his career, hitting .326 with 30 runs scored and a .435 on-base percentage. He leads the team in hits (42), triples (1) and stolen bases (4) and is second in average (.326), runs scored (30), doubles (8) and on on-base percentage (.435).

• Pitt and it’s top of the order have been finding every way to get on base. Dom Popa leads the team in HBPs (10) while Luke Cantwell leads the team in walks (39). Each are in the top 10 in the ACC in HBPs.

• The Panthers earned their 100th win as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference with their walk-off win two weekends ago against Georgia Tech.
