Planet Fitness is opening a new location in Jefferson Parish. Here’s where.
Planet Fitness is expanding its footprint in Jefferson Parish with a new location in Marrero expected to open in December in a building that used to be a Toys “R” Us.
The new club will be located at 4800 Lapalco Boulevard, near a Walmart Supercenter and Home Depot and next door to Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana.
United Fitness Partners, Planet Fitness’ largest franchisee, will operate the new location. It opened a new club on Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie late last year, and oversees a dozen other Planet Fitness locations in the New Orleans area.
“We are thrilled about the opportunity to continue expanding in the New Orleans market with the upcoming Marrero location,” Scott Lyons, regional director for United Fitness Partners, said in a statement. “With more than a dozen locations around the area, it has been incredible to see the energy these communities bring into our clubs each day.”
The Marrero club will stretch across 20,000 square feet and include 62 pieces of cardio equipment, full body strength and functional equipment, and full locker rooms with showers and changing areas, according to a spokesperson for the franchisee.
Jefferson Parish issued a permit last week allowing contractors with Planet Construction J2911, LLC to begin a $1.6 million buildout of the property. The club is slated to open in December.
The property is owned by Marrero Land & Improvement Association, according to parish records. Lori Ward, president and CEO of Marrero Land, said they’re working on several other prospects for vacant commercial properties on the West Bank.
“We’re thrilled to have Planet Fitness move in,” she said. “I think it’s going to be good for the area.”
Toys “R” Us operated out of the location for more than 30 years before closing in early 2017.
