World Shooting Complex in Sparta to host 125th Grand American Trapshooting Championship
SPARTA, Ill. (KFVS) – The 125th Amateur Trapshooting Association’s (ATA) Grand American Trapshooting Championships at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex (WSRC) in Sparta kicks off Wednesday, July 31 through August 10.
According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), this year’s competition will feature more than 20 events which is expected to attract more than 5,000 competitors and spectators from across the U.S. and globally.
IDNR said the competition has an estimated economic impact of $25 million to $30 million annually.
The event has taken place at the WSRC since 2006.
The facility operated by IDNR offers 120 trap houses, two sporting clays courses, 24 combination trap and skeet fields and cowboy action shooting.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Grand American competitors, spectators, vendors, and sponsors back to Illinois again this year,” said IDNR Director Natalie Phelps Finnie in a released statement. “The World Shooting and Recreational Complex is the finest world-class shooting sports facility in the world, and it’s an honor to host the Grand American.”
IDNR and ATA have signed a deal for the shooting complex in Sparta to host the Grand American through 2036.
