Soldier killed in World War II to be interred in Clovis
CLOVIS, N.M. (KFDA) – The remains of a Clovis soldier killed in World War II will be interred Aug. 8.
The Muffley Funeral Home will perform graveside services for U.S. Army Sgt. Sam A. Prince before interment at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency identified Prince, who’s from Clovis, April 25.
A news release states his remains were exhumed in April 2019 from the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in the Philippines for analysis and identification.
Prince was a member of the Headquarters Battery, 200th Coast Artillery Regiment, U.S. Army, when Japanese forces invaded the Philippine Islands in December 1941, the news release states.
He was among the service members captured, subjected to the Bataan Death March and interned at POW camps. The news release states 28-year-old Prince died as a prisoner of war September 22, 1942.
