Young women learn about jobs in construction
All summer long, a group of middle and high school girls have come together in east Baltimore for a unique camp experience. The goal is to get them to explore a career mostly dominated by men. At ABC Baltimore on East Biddle Street, it isn’t a typical arts and crafts summer camp. It’s where hard hats protect the heads of young women who are learning all about jobs in construction. The camp is sponsored by the National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC), and it includes field trips, where the girls learn skills like plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, and also, marketing, accounting and business development.
