The Crimson Tide are a way of life in Alabama. That begins and ends with their football team, which claims 18 national championships. They were a powerhouse in the 1960s and 1970s under legendary coach Bear Bryant before returning to glory in the 2010s under Nick Saban. Both coaches led the Crimson Tide to six national titles.

Alabama’s men’s basketball team has an impressive resume on the hardwood as well, trailing only Kentucky among SEC teams in wins, tournament titles and conference titles. The Crimson Tide are coming off their best season in program history, as they made it to their first Final Four in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Auburn has won five conference regular season championships on the hardwood along with winning three SEC tournaments. The Tigers’ best season came in 2019 when they made it to the Final Four. They’ve also produced one NBA Hall of Famer in Charles Barkley.

While the Lions play in the FCS now, most of their success came at the Division II level. They’re the only team to win three consecutive Division II titles (1993-1995) and are the last Division II team to beat an FBS team, as they defeated Southwestern Louisiana in 1997.

North Alabama has been in the ASUN since 2018 but has yet to make it to a Division I NCAA Tournament. The men’s basketball team won two Division II national championships in 1979 and 1991.

An FCS school in the Southern Conference, the Bulldogs fielded their first football team in 1902. They’ve won four conference championships on the gridiron, with their last win coming in 2022. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs in 2022, where they lost to North Dakota State.
