BYU Guard Egor Demin Gets 5-Star Rating From 247 Sports

BYU guard Egor Demin got his first rating courtesy of On3 last month, and 247 Sports came through with their rating today. On3 rates Demin as the #33 prospect in the country with a 97 rating, which puts him in high four-star territory; a 98 rating at On3 and 247 Sports is a 5-star rating.

247 Sports gave Demin a 5-star rating and rates him as the #16 player overall in the 2024 class. Demin is the first 5-star recruit in program history. Egor is widely projected as a first round pick in a loaded 2025 Draft. In late June, ESPN projected him to go 9th overall in their early 2025 mock draft.

“BYU’s Egor Demin is a jumbo 6-foot-8 guard from Russia, who most recently played with Real Madrid. He’s being touted as a potential one-and-done prospect and will be given five-star status and ranked at No. 16 in the class of 2024.”

Demin is a versatile guard that is a terrific passer and scorer. He has the playmaking ability to play point guard and size to play on the wing. Demin can realistically play the 1-4 spots at BYU, although I project him playing mainly the 2 or 3. I anticipate him starting and Kevin Young will use him in a variety of ways. Demin can create in the PNR or off the dribble and gives BYU a player that can create and score off the bounce. Demin’s size will cause mismatch opportunities that Young will exploit through either scoring chances for Demin or allowing him to find open guys when he breaks down a defense. He and Dallin Hall will give BYU arguably the best passing duo in the Big 12. Demin essentially gives BYU another point guard next to Dallin Hall, he just does point guard things with the size of a four man. Transition is where Demin really excels; Kevin Young wants to play a fast tempo, and Demin is relentless in pushing the pace off turnovers or misses. He puts a ton of pressure on the defense as a 6-foot-9 ball handler and creator in the open court with his ability to attack the rim or find open shooters.

I’ve talked with people that have played with and watched Demin this summer, and the feedback is unanimously positive. Demin is the real deal and has impressed everyone with his size and skill. Outside shooting is one of my biggest question marks for Demin. He has the form and skill to be a good outside shooter, but will that manifest itself at BYU? If he can get in the 36%+ range from deep, he will be extremely difficult to guard.
