iPhone 17 Lineup To Receive One Of The Biggest Front Camera Upgrades In Years, With 6 Plastic Lens Elements For Better Results

Apple is gearing up to launch the new iPhone 16 lineup, but considering the prospects, it has already started working on the iPhone 17 models. The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models are now slated to come with improved front-facing cameras, bumping up the megapixel count to 24 for all. 2025 iPhone models are shaping to be solid upgrades over their predecessors, considering the design changes that will be part of the mix.

The iPhone 17 lineup is slated to receive one of the front camera upgrades with a 24MP lens for all models, including the ‘Slim’ variant

Prominent analyst Jeff Pu states in his research notes that all four models of the iPhone 17, which includes the standard models, ‘Pro’ models, and the rumored iPhone 17, will come with upgraded 24MP front cameras (via MacRumors). The camera will house six plastic lens, and in comparison, the iPhone 15 lineup features a 12MP camera with five plastic lens elements. This will give the iPhone 17 models a major boost in photos and video quality, which will far exceed the standards of the current iPhone 15 models as well as the upcoming iPhone 16 models.

Take note that this is not the first time that we have heard details on the iPhone 17 lineup’s upgraded 24MP front camera, as credible analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also stated that at least one model of the iPhone 17 will come with a 24MP front camera with a six-piece lens. This means that the camera upgrade has been rumored for a while now and from multiple sources, which only added to to it being in the works. However, there have not been any leaks in terms of the camera hardware or detailed camera specifications of the devices.

Kuo stated that the new 24MP lens on the iPhone 17 would greatly improve image quality compared to the competition as well as the current iPhone models, and for the most part, it could be true as the iPhone has featured a 12MP camera for a long time. With a 24MP front camera, users will be able to crop the photos without distorting the image quality, and each lens element will be designed in place to make the results clearer and more accurate.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 17 lineup next year in September, with a wide range of changes coming to the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models. The company is also looking to launch an all-new model of the iPhone 17 which will be ultra-thin but packed with internals on par with the standard models or the iPhone SE 4. However, it will feature a hefty price tag, which is an indication that the company will use the design of the device as its unique selling point, while the ‘Pro’ models remain the most powerful iPhones from Apple.
