Milwaukee Brewers vs Washington Nationals: Aaron Civale getting crushed early
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Milwaukee Brewers will try to take the series when they face the Washington Nationals on Saturday afternoon from Nationals Park.
Follow along for live updates.
Brewers starter Aaron Civale recorded the first two outs of the bottom of the first before things fell all the way apart.
Five consecutive Nationals reached against Civale to plate four runs before Civale recorded his next out. Luis Garcia roped a double down the first-base line and scored on Keibert Ruiz‘s single. James Wood walked, setting up the big hit of the inning, a two-run double off the bat of Travis Blankenhorn on which left fielder Jackson Chourio appeared to get a late break.
Alex Call capped off the damage with a single up the middle to push the Nationals’ lead to 4-0. Civale threw 34 pitches in the inning in 95 degree heat.
Civale gave up three two-strike hits in the inning and got tagged with a fourth on the day at the start of the third inning when he threw an 0-2 sweeper at the bottom of the zone that Garcia pulled into the seats in right to push Washington’s lead to 5-0. It was the sixth homer allowed by Civale in 23 innings with the Brewers.
