Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – August 5
Michael Conforto – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Michael Conforto’s .231 batting average might not instill a lot of confidence before Monday’s action, but there are a lot of reasons to believe in him here. Firstly, he’s hit really well in the last couple of games. He has five hits over the last two games and has been showing off the power a bit too. Three of those five hits have been for extra bases – meaning he has 10 total bases in the last two games.
To make matters even better, he faces Patrick Corbin on Monday. Not only has Corbin been bad, but Conforto has historically eaten against. He’s a career 12-for-34 head-to-head with seven of those hits going for extra-bases – five being home runs.
Dominic Smtih – Higher than 0.5 Total Bases
To be honest, I would like this total even if they were asking for 1.5 total bases. Dominic Smith has looked incredible lately. He has a double in five straight games and seven extra-base hits in that span. He, like Conforto, has a really nice history with his Monday foe – albeit with a low sample size. When he faced Brady Singer last year, he ripped an early home run and added a sacrifice fly later on.
Will Smith – Lower than 1.5 Total Bases
Smith has been cold as of late. He has just one hit in his last 14 at-bats and hasn’t had an extra-base hit since July 14th and he’s only had one multiple hit game in that span. That means he’s beat this projection just once in his last twelve games. Facing Aaron Nola today isn’t easing the difficulty level for Smith. Not only is Nola on a roll right now, but Smith is a career 2-for-17 (.118) against him with five strikeouts.
