Huntington Mall sees ‘Black Friday’ level business for West Virginia Tax Free Weekend

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Monday marks the last day of the West Virginia Tax Free Holiday.

During the past several days, West Virginia shoppers have been able to save money by not paying sales tax on items such as clothing, laptops, school and sport supplies.

One such business seeing heavy traction traffic during the event is the Huntington mall, and even on Monday, shoppers took advantage of the deal

This past weekend, the Huntington Mall saw what they call, ‘Black Friday’ levels of traffic for people looking to take advantage of the sales tax holiday, seeing a much higher volume of shoppers than normal

“Like times five (the amount of normal customers) it was just packed. The parking lot was packed, I was talking to our property manager, and he said it definitely seemed like a crowd, probably over 15,000 cars he said easy on Saturday coming through.” Huntington Mall Marketing Director Margi Valdez said.

The Huntington Mall ran a promotion, giving out $25 mall gift cards for anyone who spent $250 or more. That promotion started in July and was supposed to run through Aug. 18, or until the 300 gift cards ran out.

“We ran out Saturday evening, probably around seven or eight o clock in the evening,” Valdez said.

The Tax Free Holiday ends Monday night.
