BCB After Dark: World Series predictions

Welcome to BCB After Dark: the coolest club for night owls, early risers, new parents and Cubs fans abroad. Come on in and spend some time with us. We’re in a good mood this evening. There’s no cover charge. We still have a few tables available. Bring your own beverage.

BCB After Dark is the place for you to talk baseball, music, movies, or anything else you need to get off your chest, as long as it is within the rules of the site. The late-nighters are encouraged to get the party started, but everyone else is invited to join in as you wake up the next morning and into the afternoon.

The Cubs beat the Twins tonight 7-3, snapping their five-game winning streak. The big news was that Isaac Paredes hit his first Cubs home run and it was a big one, a three-run home run in the first inning that gave the Cubs a lead they would never relinquish. The Cubs also got a three-hit game out of Dansby Swanson, which is also a good sign.

Last night, I asked you if you wanted Héctor Neris back with the Cubs in 2025. Admittedly, the Cubs may not have much of a choice it the team option becomes a player option, but 66 percent of you didn’t want Neris to return.

On Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, I don’t do a movie essay. But I always have time for jazz, so those of you who skip that can do so now. You won’t hurt my feelings.

Tonight we’re featuring a performance by saxophonist Wayne Shorter in Stockholm in 2014. Also featured are Danilo Perez on piano, John Patitucci on bass and Brian Blade on drums.

Tonight (because honestly, I’ve been unable to think of a better question), I’m going to ask you who is going to win the World Series this year.

According to Fangraphs’ playoff odds, the Dodgers are still the favorites to win the World Series with a 17 percent chance. At least as I write this. The Dodgers/Phillies game is still going on and the results of that game will change the percentages by the time you read this

The Yankees are in second place with a 14.9 percent chance.

The next five favorites are:

Phillies 12.3%

Orioles 9.5%

Braves 6.8%

Twins 6.6%

Padres 5.8%

Of course, you don’t have to pick one of these. I’ll put in an “other” option for those of you who still hope the Cubs will pull off the nearly-impossible (0.2%) or some other team. I’m guessing the Guardians (5.1%) might be a popular “other.”
