Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas launches Fitness Court in Junction City
JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is starting the new Fitness Court in Junction City, Kan.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) said they partnered with City of Junction City, Quality Play for All and National Fitness Campaign (NFC) to announce the partnership to bring an outdoor Fitness Court to Junction City.
On Wednesday, Aug. 7, members from each of the organization joined together to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the launch of Fitness Court located at 5th Street Playground Park at the corner of Eisenhower and 5th St. in Junction City.
This Fitness Court was developed these organizations to expand free access to high quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities around Kansas. The outdoor gym includes seven exercise stations that require using one’s own body weight to get a complete workout.
BCBSKS said the works are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users also may download the free Fitness Court App which acts as a coach and enhances the outdoor gym experience.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas’ Director of Blue Health Initiatives Virginia Barnes said this innovative solution will address physical activity needs for Kansans.
“We need more innovative solutions to address the physical activity needs of all Kansans. Solutions that will level the playing field and allow everyone a safe place to enjoy the outdoors and improve their health,” said Barnes. “We believe that all people deserve this opportunity, and we are proud to partner with City of Junction City, Quality Play for All and NFC to show our commitment to improving the health of all Kansans.”
Junction City Parks and Recreation Director Joshua Gray said they are excited to partner with these organizations to provide an inclusive place to play in the community.
“Junction City Parks and Recreation is excited to have partnered with BCBSKS and Quality Play for All to bring the next amenity to Playground Park,” said Gray. “The inclusion of the Fitness Court ensures that everyone of every age has a place to play in our community. Thank you Quality Play for All for your continued support and efforts. Without you the Fitness Court would not have been possible.”
National Fitness Campaign Founder Mitch Menaged said they are proud to welcome Junction City to the campaign.
“National Fitness Campaign is proud to welcome City of Junction City to the campaign as a leader in Kansas, championing health and wellness for their residents” said Menaged. “The addition of the Fitness Court, along with digital wellness programming, demonstrates a tremendous commitment to the health and wellbeing within the community.”
