‘Escape From Tarkov’ Deleted Player’s Progress, But It’s Not The Wipe

A bug in Escape From Tarkov has seemingly wiped all player’s inventory items and trader rep, but this is not the official start of a new wipe and instead just an accident from the development team that they might not be able to fix.

Around an hour ago Tarkov players started to notice that all their in game inventory items had been lost and some players reported having the base inventory you get at the start of a new wipe of when you first boot up the game. It also looks like all trader rep has also been lost, but strangely quest progress appears to be in tact.

Some users reported seeing the ‘Profile is Null’ error, while others are currently unable to access the game as the Tarkov servers appear to be down as a result.

With many people thinking this was a surprise wipe, which did seem plausible seeing as many people thought the wipe would arrive tomorrow, August 8, the Escape From Tarkov team took to social media to announce that this was in fact a technical issue and not the start of a new wipe.

In the post, the team confirmed that the technical issue caused the loss of profile date, and suggested that they may not be able to restore what was lost in a reasonable time frame, meaning it’s an early end to the wipe for many players. However, they have promised that appropriate in game compensation will be coming, which likely means Tarkov will be complete chaos until the wipe launches.

With all players losing their gear and cash it would not be unreasonable to think that the usual pre-wipe event that makes all items from traders cost one Ruble could be brought forward and all players can essentially access whatever they want for the remainder of the wipe. This would mean that Tarkov would likely be a chaotic fight with massively overpowered weapons for the next week or so until the wipe is expected to launch.

While the bug is obviously not ideal, especially for players who were close to completing a major goal just in time for the wipe, the good news is that achievements and in game stats were not impacted, so the permanent things you can earn in Tarkov are not lost. It has also come right at the end of a wipe, so unless we are in for more delays as a result all players have really lost is a week of being able to play with their kitted out weapons.

Regardless of the issue, Tarkov is about to spring back to life when the wipe finally launches. It looks like the wipe will arrive next week, but this issue could bring that date forward if Battlestate Games wants to appease annoyed fans.
