The Cranston Western Little League Softball team is finally set to play its second game in the Little League Softball World Series in Greenville, N.C.

The New England Region champions handed Willcox, Arizona, the West Region champions, a 3-0 loss on Monday afternoon at Stallings Stadium at Elm Street Park. Game 2 was originally set for Thursday, but the remnants of Hurricane Debby changed those plans. The second game was initially moved to Friday at 10 a.m., but when the bad weather struck out all of Thursday’s game, Little League altered its game plan once more.

Instead, six games were scheduled for today, with the New England champs slated to face the host team — Pitt County, N.C. — at 6 p.m.

The game will be televised on ESPN2 and had an original start time of 5 p.m. But the start was delayed because the prior game — Pennsylvania vs. the Philippines — also got a late start. The New England vs. North Carolina game is now set to start at 6 p.m.

What’s next for Cranston Western?

The winner of the Rhode Island vs. North Carolina game advances to the Purple Bracket final, while the loser falls to an elimination game — both games were scheduled for Saturday, but the schedule now lists them as TBD.

The LLWS is a double-elimination tournament (meaning two losses and you’re out). The Purple Bracket winner will take on the Orange Bracket winner for the championship, game date and time is TBD.
