Travis Kelce ‘Sends a Message’ to Taylor Swift With Game-Day Fashion Ahead of First Chiefs Game

On Saturday, Aug. 10, the Kansas City Chiefs will kick off their first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars—and tight end Travis Kelce was dressed for success ahead of the matchup.

In fact, some Taylor Swift fans were convinced his game-day outfit sent a message to his pop superstar girlfriend.

A photo of Kelce, 34, arriving in Jacksonville, Fla., ahead of the game showed him donning a button-down shirt featuring different floral patterns. He wore khaki pants, Nike tennis shoes, a ball cap and sunglasses to complete the look after the NFL team landed in the Sunshine State.

On X (formerly Twitter), one fan wrote, “Travis Kelce is once again using his fashion to send a message. In a world of boys, he is a gentleman.”

The update also included lyrics to Swift’s Tortured Poets Department track “I Hate It Here.”: “I hate it here so I will go to / secret gardens in my mind / People need a key to get to.”

In the comments, other Swifties agreed that Kelce’s flowery ‘fit hinted at the “secret gardens” the songstress references in the song.

One X user wrote, “Exactly!!! I knew someone would figure it out! Ur awesome,” while another commented, “I thought so Thank you for cracking the code.”

Someone else shared another possible connection between Kelce’s shirt and Swift, writing, “I also thought of her YT short bc some of the patterns are similar.”

Meanwhile, yet another X user pointed out, “Last season, it became really clear that he was sending messages through his fashion. It makes a lot of sense too. He’s an emotional guy and also very tactical in how he expresses his feelings to others in his relationships, so his clothes become an extension of that.”

This wasn’t the first time fans have observed nods to Swift in Kelce’s clothing choices. In September 2023—the same day Swift attended her first Chiefs game—Kelce donned what many Swifties considered a “1989-coded” white denim jacket and jeans with blue-splattered designs.

Whether or not Kelce meant to send a message about Swift with his outfit on Aug. 10, the real question on Swifties’ minds is: Will she attend the game? Fans will have to tune in to find out!

The Chiefs-Jaguars preseason game will kick off at 7 p.m. ET at EverBank Stadium.
