Advice from past Sioux Falls teams at Little League World Series: HAVE FUN!
WILLIAMSPORT, PA (Dakota News Now) – The Sioux Falls Little League team is in Williamsport ahead of their Wednesday opener in the Little League World Series.
Though the experience is new to them they’ve certainly heard from plenty of former players on how to handle it.
After all this year’s team is the third group in the history of the Sioux Falls program to make their way to Williamsport. Marcus Phillips, who just won a National Championship pitching for Tennessee in the College World Series, was among the first players to lead the 2017 team to the program’s initial World Series appearance.
Though that team went winless Gavin Weir and the 2021 squad won three games to advance to the World Series semifinals with Weir’s pitching performance getting national praise from celebrities and stars across the world.
That’s quite a depth of experience between the two teams that has already been shared with this year’s group, and there’s already been one common theme emerging.
“Do everything we can to soak in the moment and enjoy everything. Enjoy meeting other kids, engaging in the activities they have planned for us. You know we’re certainly here to win baseball games but we’re here to make lifelong memories.“ Head Coach Nick Kortan says.
”They said it’s just tons of fun. Enjoy everything, take advantage of the opportunity to come here.” Devin Cargin says.
Sioux Falls will open the Little League World Series on Wednesday night against Lake Mary (FL) at 6:00 PM CST at Lamade Stadium in Williamsport.
