Women’s Rowing Travels North For SIRA – Jacksonville University

OAK RIDGE, Tenn.- The JU Women’s Rowing Team is set to hit the water this weekend for the SIRA Regatta in Oak Ridge.

The Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association’s (SIRA) annual race has the Dolphins traveling just West of Knoxville to Melton Hill Lake for a weekend of competitive racing.

“This is the culmination of a long hard year or work for many of our athletes,” said head coach Mike Lane.  “In our final regatta we try to travel most of the team giving as many athletes a race as possible, so I am excited for that group of women, who get the opportunity to represent JU Women’s Rowing!  On top of that I am looking forward to watching our MAAC boats take the lessons learned from last weekend in Philadelphia and continue to make improvements and grow!”

A week ago, JU had three boats compete in the Grand Final at the Knecht Cup Regatta. The Dolphins 1v4 and 2v4 both took home silver medals, and the 1v8 finished in fourth in what JU hopes is a building block towards a weekend like SIRA.

“Racing is the fun part, competing against other athletes from around the country is something that can’t be replicated in practice.  I am fired up to cheer for our women in what will be some hard battles in Oak Ridge!”
