225 new jobs coming to Johnson City following M investment into golf cart manufacturing

A $14 million investment into a golf cart manufacturing facility is expected to bring 225 new jobs to Johnson City, officials announced Tuesday.

With the newest acquisition on Eddie Williams Road, MD Carts and its sister company LPI Inc. have amassed more than 750,000 square feet of manufacturing space in the city. At the production facility, MD Carts will manufacture a line of specialty recreational carts. MD Carts will sell its products directly to consumers at its more than 80 retail locations across the USA and online through its website, GolfCarts.com.

Below are quotes from various officials.

“Support from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, Tennessee Valley Authority, and City of Johnson City make investing here profitable for the manufacturer,” said Johnson City Economic Development Director Alicia Summers. “This investment will have a consequential impact on the economic health and vitality of our community. MD Carts will employ a skilled workforce by offering quality jobs and paying competitive wages. That is a win-win for the community.”

“This is wonderful news for our community,” said Johnson City Mayor Todd Fowler. “For years, LPI has manufactured quality spas and shipped them from Johnson City to commercial partners across the United States. We are excited to see their new company expand their production of world-class products here in Johnson City.”

“Johnson City and the State of Tennessee have been vital in LPI’s path of becoming the largest hot tub manufacturer in the USA,” said David Hatley, CEO of MD Carts. “We are now looking forward to creating the same rapid growth in our new EV golf cart manufacturing business. The employee base and advantages Johnson City offers are second to none in our eyes, and we are thankful to be a part of it.”

“The selection of Johnson City as the location for MD Carts’ new manufacturing facility is a testament to our region’s strong economic foundations and collaborative spirit,” said Washington County Mayor Joe Grandy. “This significant investment not only brings valuable jobs to our community but also reinforces the role of Washington County as a key player in the manufacturing sector. We look forward to supporting MD Carts and LPI Inc. as they continue to thrive and contribute to our local economy.”
