Sherman ISD Superintendent’s job up for discussion at next board meeting

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – The future of Sherman ISD Superintendent Dr. Tyson Bennett’s job is on the agenda for the district’s April 26th Board of Trustees meeting.

In the meeting, the board will discuss and possibly take action on a proposal to terminate Bennett’s contract.

On March 8th, the board voted unanimously to suspend Bennett with pay as part of an ongoing investigation into decisions made about the Sherman High School theatre program.

In November, the district enforced a rule that required students to be cast in roles that matched their birth genders for an upcoming production of the musical ‘Oklahoma!’

This rule cost a transgender male the lead role, and nearly 20 other students also lost their roles.

The rule was reversed later that month, and Bennett was suspended from overseeing the Fine Arts Department.

In February the show went on with the original cast.
