‘She’s going into her own little world’: Bryan ISD parents embrace new beginnings

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – As thousands of Brazos Valley students embarked on a new school year Tuesday, parents also entered a new stage of their lives.

It was an emotional morning for Bryan ISD parent, Brittany Bush, as she dropped off her daughter Ella to start her kindergarten year.

“My baby is five years old, and she’s going into her own little world, and making new friends and learning new things and building relationships,” Bush listed. “I’m just excited for her.”

Jonathon and Abbie Gilmore’s daughter Emma started the same grade on Tuesday.

“She has been going through pre-k, so she’s a little bit used to that every day, but this, of course, is definitely new,” Mrs. Gilmore said. “She’s gonna start the dual-language program here, so we’re really excited about that.”

It was difficult for both sets of parents to believe the day had finally come, but said their morning pep talks helped ease the nerves.

“[It was] Kind of more expectations on what to expect through the day and just reminding her that we’ll pick her up at the end of the day, and just something to look forward to there,” explained Mrs. Gilmore of how she prepared Emma.

Although nervous and excited for the year, the parents said they simply want their daughters to embrace everything the new year has to offer.

“For Ella, I think the biggest thing is getting her involved in athletics and the community and making new friends and getting that social connection,” Bush added.
