Indian designer Anamika Khanna to collaborate with H&M

With almost 20 years of exciting collections under its belt, H&M has become famous for its high-low designer collaborations. And now, the high-street giant has announced that it is teaming up with one of the biggest Indian fashion designers for its next project. The brand is working with Anamika Khanna on a colourful collection that infuses her modern take on traditional craft.

Khanna – who launched her label in 1998 and was the first Indian fashion designer to appear on the Paris Fashion Week schedule – is known for her signature eclectic flair, where she brings together opulent craftsmanship with contemporary tailoring and luxurious loungewear.

“Anamika’s style is an interesting mix of the Indian tradition of bridalwear with modern touches, such as sportswear,” explains Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M. “She is a master of contrasts, mixing feminine and masculine codes to create something entirely new.”

Khanna is the second Indian designer, after Sabyasachi Mukherjee in 2021, to have teamed up with H&M on one of the brand’s famous collaborations – and the collection release will mark 10 years of H&M arriving in the Indian market.

Sure to be a sell-out success, Khanna’s H&M collection is filled with vivid and bold colours and patterns, which are great for taking from day to night. Pieces include flowing skirts, capes, dresses, tailoring, jewellery, accessories and some sportier styles.

“Inspired to bring the sartorial codes of India to an international customer, Anamika Khanna reimagines traditional cuts such as kurta pyjamas, kaftans and lungi skirts with a fresh and contemporary allure,” H&M explained of the collection, which will be available to shop in store and online from 5 September.
