What didn’t work for Inter against Genoa
La Gazzetta dello Sport analyses Inter‘s 2-2 draw against Genoa, mostly blaming the defensive department and highlighting that the Nerazzurri conceded just one goal in the opening five league games last season.
A Marcus Thuram brace was not enough for Inter to win their opening 2024-25 Serie A match at Marassi against Genoa.
The French striker was the best player on the pitch for the Nerazzurri, while Lautaro Martinez made his first appearance this summer. The Argentinean only trained for ten days before yesterday’s match and had not been involved in any pre-season game after returning from Copa America.
Gazzetta dello Sport pins the blame on Inter’s defence. Yann Bisseck caused a late penalty kick with a clumsy handball, while Francesco Acerbi was clearly ‘not in shape’, Matteo Darmian was ‘imprecise and not proactive’ and Alessandro Bastoni was ‘far from his standards.’
Even Yan Sommer, who saved Junior Messias’ penalty but conceded from the rebound, was blamed for a couple of misplaced passes in the build-up.
Inter won the Serie A title last season, conceding just 22 goals in 38 games and only one in the opening five league fixtures.
