Di Lorenzo confirms excitement for Napoli stay despite previous request
Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo has confirmed that he no longer has any desire to leave the club and spoke of his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, despite reportedly requesting a move away before the start of the transfer window.
Reports from numerous outlets at the end of May suggested that the Italy international was looking to leave the club he has represented since 2019, believing that the cycle of the squad that won the 2022-23 Scudetto was over.
However, with the 2024-25 Serie A campaign now underway, and with Napoli due to play Hellas Verona away on Saturday evening, Di Lorenzo is excited to get back to business under Antonio Conte.
Di Lorenzo ‘enthusiastic’ for Napoli stay
“It’s over now. I’ve already explained what my situation was. I’m here because I want to stay here, I want to play for Napoli,” Di Lorenzo told Sky before kick-off in Verona-Napoli.
“We’ve already seen it this transfer window, that those who want to leave, leave. There’s nothing to stop them. I, on the other hand, have stayed here with lots of enthusiasm and I’m ready to give my all this season.”
Di Lorenzo is set to line up in a slightly different role at the beginning of the campaign to the one he has been used to playing in recent seasons.
He has featured as part of Conte’s preferred back three throughout pre-season, rather than at right-back in a back four. He joins Amir Rrahmani and Juan Jesus in the Partenopei back line today, with the latter filling in for the injured Alessandro Buoongiorno.
