Sentinels drop both opening games

The 2024-2025 school season will be marked by ‘firsts’ for the Minot North Sentinels as they start the first year in varsity sports school wide. The boys soccer team started their run of firsts as well.

In game one, against Grand Forks Red River, the Sentinels opened the new season with the home game on Friday, August 16 with a loss as the Roughriders took the 8-0 win.

Minot North sophomore Griffin Wald spent time in goal for the Sentinels and had 12 saves while teammate, seventh grader Brantley Robinson added four saves in relief. Ebube Asoqwa and Logan Lambl each scored two of the eight goals for Grand Forks Red River.

In game two, Central made the trip to Minot North and the Knights handed the host Sentinels a loss and took a 14-3 win back to Grand Forks.

With Central leading 2-0 in the first half, Minot North sophomore Logan Ovitt took a pass from junior Malychi Baldwin to score the first goal in the Sentinels school history. Minot North trailed 15-1 in the last five minutes of the game when Ovitt took another pass from Baldwin for the second goal for the home team. Four minutes later, eighth grader Gavin Wald took a pass from Ovitt to score the third goal for the home team.

Griffin Wald spent the game in goal for Minot North and recorded six saves. Grand Forks Central Sam Christman scored four goals while Kaiden Peterson two goals and one assist for the visiting Knights.

The Minot North roster is composed of five juniors, two sophomores, three freshmen, seven eighth graders and one seventh grader. The Sentinels travel to Williston on Tuesday, August 20, before hosting cross town rivals from Minot High on Thursday, August 22.
