Former First Lady Michelle Obama went undercover in a Target store in a baseball cap and dark glasses to sign copies of her new book.
Obama had been in St. Louis, Missouri, earlier this week to speak at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
On Friday, she then shared a video of what she called a ‘covert operation’ inside a Target store in the city involving her new book ‘The Light We Carry’.
In the footage, Obama can be seen making her way inside the store and signing copies of the book.
She says: ‘We are on a mission. It’s a secret mission. I had the crazy idea, I heard my paperback is out and it’s in Target.’

‘So we are going to go undercover because I have not seen my book actually in a Target store. So we are going to try to do this low-key.’
The video then cuts to Obama in the store, triumphantly raising her hands as she says: ‘I’m in Target!’ as she spots a stand full of her new book.
The 60-year-old then poses next to the stand before picking up a copy and asking: ‘Should I do a reading in here?’
She is then handed a pen and proceeds to sign six copies of the book, returning them onto the shelf.
After signing the books, Obama grabs a basket and goes around the store shopping.
She then heads to the pet care, menswear and women’s department where she picks up numerous items.
She says: ‘I got something for me, something for my husband and something for Sunny’, the family dog, before adding: ‘The girls, they can get their own stuff.’
‘The Light We Carry’ is the follow up to her bestselling memoir ‘Becoming’ and according to her website ‘shares practical wisdom and powerful strategies’.

A New York Times review described it as a ‘road map for uncertain times resonates in ways that other self-help books do not. Through her stories, experiences and thoughts, we’re finding the light with her.’
In a Guardian excerpt, she touches upon watching the January 6 attack on the Capitol, which she described as ‘perhaps the most frightening thing [she had] ever witnessed’.
