Thanks to K. for passing on the latest from VIDA Fitness regarding their security camera policy for the the Men’s Locker Room.

“VIDA U Street Members,

Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding the installation of security cameras at the entry/exit and interior sink areas of the Men’s Locker Room. Please note that these cameras would not capture any footage of toilet areas, shower areas, or changing areas within the locker bays.

Due to recent thefts in the Men’s Locker Room, we implemented this approach to enhance your safety and security.

Below is our formal Video Surveillance and Privacy Policy:

For the protection of our patrons, staff, and facilities, VIDA may, from time to time, install video surveillance equipment in its facilities. This may include locker room surveillance.
We will always place clear and prominent notices in any locker room areas under video surveillance.
All cameras will be made easily visible to ensure transparency.
We will not live-monitor any locker room surveillance cameras.
Appropriate security measures will be maintained to protect the confidentiality of any recordings.
Video recordings will be overwritten monthly.
In the event of an incident on VIDA premises, video recordings will be reviewed. Relevant video recordings will be preserved and provided to law enforcement as needed.

Below is the Locker Room Notice placed next to each camera:

“This locker room is under video surveillance. This added layer of security helps protect your personal property. Please do your part and always securely lock your belongings inside a locker. Report any suspicious activity to the Manager-On-Duty. We will never place video cameras in toilet areas, shower areas, or any other area prohibited by law.”

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We are committed to maintaining VIDA as a safe and welcoming space for everyone.

Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions and/or concerns.”
