Jeannine Tang Joins SK Global As COO & General Counsel

EXCLUSIVE: SK Global Entertainment, the independent entertainment studio behind hits like Anyone But You and Crazy Rich Asians, has appointed Jeannine Tang to serve as Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel.

Tang joins after more than six years at the recently shuttered Participant, where most recently served as General Counsel, overseeing and advising on all aspects of the company’s business and legal affairs, including the content business, strategic investments and partnerships, social impact collaborations and general corporate matters. In her new role, she’ll be responsible for the integration and operationalization of SK Global Entertainment and its subsidiary Critical Content, overseeing oversee company-wide strategy, business operations and dealmaking, as well as legal affairs and human resources.

In a statement on Tang’s appointment, SK Global’s Chief Financial Officer Matt Aragachi said, “Jeannine is a dynamic leader and strategic dealmaker who brings unmatched expertise with her extensive background across business affairs and production. Her knowledge will be invaluable as we continue our growth as a studio and deliver quality content for audiences all around the globe.”

Stated Tang: “I’ve been a long-time admirer of SK Global’s work – both creatively and as an innovator in the independent studio space. They’ve made impactful investments behind franchise IP and talent, as well as strategic acquisitions, like the hugely successful Anyone But You, that have uniquely positioned the company to scale, and I look forward to joining the team during this exciting next chapter.”

During her time at Participant, Tang collaborated on a restructure of the film and television slate and the consolidation of the company’s digital content assets, as well as legal efforts surrounding their global impact campaigns, which encompassed partnership contracts and management, complex legal considerations, and content creation. Notable projects she had a hand in included Descendant (Netflix), We Grown Now (Sony), BLKNWS (A24), Out of My Mind (Disney+), and Interior Chinatown (Hulu).    

Prior to her tenure at Participant, Tang worked for more than three and half years as Associate General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs at The Weinstein Company. She started her law career in the Entertainment, Sports and Media Group at O’Melveny and Myers, LLP, primarily focusing on film and television, with an emphasis on complex copyright and film financing. Before her transition into business and legal affairs, she worked in creative development at DreamWorks Animation, where she helped develop titles including the Shrek franchise, Kung Fu Panda and Shark Tale. Tang holds a JD from the UC Berkeley School of Law, where she specialized in intellectual property law.

Focused on creating premium content with cultural impact, SK Global has produced and financed over 100 features, dating back to its origins as Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. Most recently, the company unveiled Anyone But You, the acclaimed Sony rom-com starring Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney, which emerged as a sleeper hit at a worldwide gross exceeding $220 million.

Also recently unveiling the acclaimed limited series Thai Cave Rescue, as well as inspirational docs like Mountain Queen: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa, which just debuted on Netflix, the company is also responsible for such acclaimed titles as Crazy Rich Asians, Hell or High Water and The Place Beyond the Pines, among many others.
