New sidewalk construction slowing traffic and business

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The road connecting Main Street in Barboursville to U.S. Route 60 has been under construction for nearly six months.

The DOH is working on new sidewalks, ramps and drainage systems on Farmdale Road.

Dr. Jeff Overstreet’s Family Chiropractic has two entrances along Farmdale Road, and Dr. Overstreet said it hasn’t affected his business as severely as others.

”They actually had to block off like their entrance, and so I think people have just been accommodating and parking in other places and knowing that you know, it’s a good thing that we’re getting a sidewalk.” Dr. Overstreet said.

Jerod Parsons, a member of Farmdale Church of Christ, said they haven’t had many problems with shutting down entrances to the church since steel grates were placed at the entrances.

“Having to come in and drive across those grates and everything like that, because you never know how safe those are gonna be,” Parsons said.

Parsons also said there were concerns for another chiropractic office, along with the pastor’s family, who live on the property.

“Unfortunately, it’s affected them more than it has us,” he said.

Parsons said Barboursville is full of pedestrians, especially coming from the nearby veteran’s home.

“That’s dangerous for them so getting a sidewalk down through there will definitely help,” he said. ”Especially come like parade time, Fall Fest and things like that. They won’t have to walk in the roads.”

Mayor Chris Tatum said the construction in Barboursville should be complete by early to mid-fall.

DOH engineers said they are trying their best to finish before November. Keep checking the WSAZ app for the latest.
