It’s no surprise that, during this time, it was Hudgens – a perfectly nice but not exactly fashion-forward person – who became the face of this kind of dressing.”

As the years ticked on, the style trickled down to the masses, and then the emerging influencer class got their hands on it, watering down even further. Fashion progressed in that time, as did Coachella’s signature style, becoming more streetwear-influenced, but the foundations of maximalism laid by those women stayed the same.
