Three men are each facing a capital murder charge in a shooting last month at an illegal gambling spot in Oak Cliff, Dallas police said Thursday.
They were arrested in connection with the fatal July 24 shooting of 40-year-old Estevan Narvaez Jr. and the wounding of another man, police said.
Authorities arrested 20-year-old Derrick Griffin on Wednesday, 42-year-old Eddie Coleman on Aug. 14 and 58-year-old Vincent Casteel on Aug. 9. All three were booked into the Dallas County jail, online records show, and it is unclear if any of the three have an attorney.
Officers responded about 8:45 p.m. July 24 to a shooting call in the 300 block of East Ledbetter Drive, near Rocky Ridge Road, and found two men shot inside the location, which police called an illegal gambling site.
Narvaez died at the location, while the other man was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Police have said that people were illegally gambling in the area when at least two people walked inside, demanded property and fired at Narvaez, striking him before fleeing. In the days following the shooting, police sought the public’s help to identify people seen at the location and released surveillance footage.
Over a few weeks, a U.S. Marshals task force later arrested Casteel, Coleman and Griffin. Bail for Griffin and Casteel was set at $2 million each. Coleman’s bail is $2.5 million, and online records show several probation violations on robbery charges.
All three remained jailed Friday morning.
