Zara’s awkward fashion faux pas at William and Kate’s wedding

Over the years, fans have tracked Zara Tindall’s style evolution from a young single royal to an elegant mother-of-three, but the royal beauty once had a fashion mishap at a high-profile wedding.

At Prince William and Princess Kate’s grand royal wedding on April 29, 2011, it appears Zara did not consult with her former sister-in-law Autumn Kelly, about her wedding guest outfit.

Normally, royals would step out in different styles, staying true to their own fashion tastes, but on this occasion, Zara and Autumn both chose to wear clashing, shimmering, coat dresses.

Autumn, who at the time was married to Peter Phillips, wore a purple floral coat dress with a metallic sheen and structured A-line skirt down to her knees.

Zara, wore an almost identical shimmery silver coat dress with a tailored silhouette, and a structured pleated skirt that fell to her knees with a bow at the back.

Both Zara and Autumn styled their blonde locks in an elegant side bun, but Zara chose to wear a black floral hair fascinator whereas Autumn chose a light-coloured purple one.

The women were all smiles as they greeted each other before the ceremony, perhaps indicating they were happy to showcase similar styles.

British designer, Laura Green, told People Magazine that Zara is “confident” with her wardrobe choices. She said: “She loves clean lines, she styles things really beautifully, she’s not a trendsetter and she’s not trying to be a fashion icon, she’s just really polished and beautifully dressed.”

Autumn Phillips, née Kelly, is the former wife of Peter Phillips, the son of Princess Anne, with whom she has two children with – Isla and Savannah Phillips. The pair met in Quebec, Canada in 2002 and were married at Windsor Castle in May 2008. The couple separated in 2019 and have been divorced since 2021.
