Krewe of Argus crowns Carnival royalty for Mardi Gras 2025 at lavish event in Jefferson

Carnival festivities in the Crescent City for the 2025 season have begun, with the Krewe of Argus recently staging their coronation ball at the Moore in Jefferson.

Reigning over the festivities as monarchs were Mr. J. Garrison Jordan as Argus XL and Miss Sophie Elizabeth Chailland as Queen Argus XL. His majesty is a partner at the law firm of Chehardy, Sherman, Williams. He is married to Mary Ellen Jordan. Her majesty is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Chailland and a student at St. Martin’s Episcopal High School.

Their court includes Misses Jessica Bialous, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Todd Bialous, a student at Ursuline Academy; Lillian Bordelon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Bordelon, a student at St. Martin’s Episcopal High School; Madeline Freeman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Freeman, a student at the University of Mississippi; and Sophia Indovina, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Anthony Indovina, a student at Archbishop Chapelle High School.

Also in the court are Misses Marianne Kononchek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Kononchek, a student at St. Mary’s Dominican High School; Katelyn Kopowski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Kopowski, a student at Mt. Carmel Academy; Sophia Madden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Madden, a student at St. Scholastica Academy; and McKenna Ural, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jason Ural, a student at Georgetown University.

Captains for the krewe, who presided over the crowning festivities, are Lawrence Chehardy and Robert DeViney.

Peacock feathers decorated the candlelit gala. The peacock is the symbol of the krewe.

Several past kings joined to welcome the new royalty, including the co-captain Lawrence Chehardy, John Persson Jr., Henry Shane, Michael Maenza, Brian Chehardy, Leon Giorgio, Steven LaChute and Jim Hudson, the outgoing monarch.

The krewe will parade along the traditional Veterans Memorial Boulevard route in Metairie on Mardi Gras, March 4, 2025.
