KP Funplex to be built in Johnson County

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – A new family fun entertainment center is set to open in Johnson County, Kentucky.

Johnson County Judge Executive Mark McKenzie and the Johnson County Fiscal Court, in partnership with the Johnson County Board of Education and a local developer, announced the signing of a lease agreement to construct a KP Funplex, an entertainment center.

The 62,500-square-foot facility will sit on a site adjoining the new Johnson Central High School campus, near Walmart, according to county officials.

KP Funplex plans to offer a wide range of activities designed to appeal to all ages, including 24 bowling lanes, a two-level go-kart track, laser tag, arcade games, 4D and VR gaming experiences, axe throwing, and party rooms. The facility will also feature a restaurant.

“On behalf of the fiscal court, I want to extend my gratitude to Johnson County Schools and the school board for their partnership in seizing this unique opportunity. By collaborating with a private developer, we’re not only bringing student and family-friendly entertainment to our community but also driving increased traffic and economic growth in the region,” said Johnson County Judge-Executive Mark McKenzie.

Johnson County Schools Superintendent Thom Cochran said currently, the bowling team travels about 20 miles one way to get to practice to the closest bowling alley. He expressed excitement as the new venue would bring the opportunity to increase student safety and host tournaments.

“We’re thrilled to secure preferred access to the 24 bowling lanes for our bowling team,” said Superintendent Thom Cochran. “This will greatly reduce our need to travel to other facilities and provide us with the opportunity to host tournaments right here in our community.”

Construction of KP Funplex is expected to begin in 2025.
