Kansas agencies seek candidates for 600+ statewide jobs, 200+ in Topeka at career fair

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – State agencies are trying to fill over 600 jobs statewide. 200 of those openings are located in the capital city.

Several agencies like the Kansas Department of Labor, the Kansas Department of Commerce, the Department for Children and Families, and state companies like the Topeka Lottery were at the first-floor rotunda Tuesday morning, Aug. 27, to meet local job-seekers, as well as, a chance for job-seekers to network with agencies and meet recruiters.

Any job hunters can still apply for a state job online. Any available job openings can be found at jobs.ks.gov. A virtual statewide job fair is also coming up Sept. 25 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Audrey Cress, a statewide recruitment manager for the Kansas Department of Administration, says while some state jobs pay less than private sector roles, she has heard from many employees who are happy about the work-life balance and benefits.

“We see a lot of folks that transition to the state from some of the private sector jobs that are excited they can make their kid[’s’] baseball games and they can be present to pick up their kids from school,” said Cress.

“Sometimes the salaries aren’t as high in comparison to the private sector,” said Cress. “There is a lot of balance when we start talking about the benefits and the work-life balance and we really talk up the opportunity to be of service. I think, the state, we really have the ability to really help people and to be present in all different areas of people’s lives, and that ability to be of service really speaks to a lot of people and those are the kind of folks we are looking for here at the state.”

Tuesday’s career fair also featured a photographer taking professional portraits of the candidates. No registration was needed.
