Fashion show in St. Clair to benefit the Christmas Room

Woman’s Life Chapter 820 — The Archangels will present a fashion show on Sept. 7 to benefit the Christmas Room.

The event will take place at the St. Clair Golf Club. The doors will open at 11 a.m. and the fashion show and lunch will take place at noon. Woman’s Life Insurance Society will match a portion of the proceeds.

The show will feature Suzanne’s Ladies Fashions of Port Huron, said Woman’s Life Chapter 820 Membership Chair Jo Ann Wilton. Wilton is also the committee chair for the fashion show event.

Suzanne’s Ladies Fashions, which is located at 325 Huron Ave. in Port Huron, has been in business for over 40 years, according to its website. It carries a variety of sizes and focuses on sourcing its clothes from within North America.

“The models will be community ladies and those who support the Christmas Room,” Wilton said. “There will be a silent auction with many and varied baskets.”

Lunch will be comprised of a mini chicken salad croissant, a cup of chicken noodle soup and a side Caesar salad with dessert donated by Woman’s Life Chapter 820.

Wilton said Woman’s Life Chapter 820 supports the needs of various agencies and individuals and unanimously chose the Christmas Room to benefit from the event, as it focuses on children and their families, as well as foster families.

“The Christmas Room takes all the (children) that either do not qualify for other organizations or agencies or fall through the cracks,” she said. “That is what is very special about the Christmas Room — they take these children, and the children/family complete a standard Christmas Room form, telling clothing/shoe sizes, colors, what they want most of all as a toy. The Christmas gifts are tailored specifically for that child.”

She said the program costs roughly $250 per child/family.

“This past year, the Christmas Room served 633 children; the goal this year is to serve 700,” she said. “The Christmas Room needs corporate sponsors and donors to continue serving children and their families.”

Wilton said Woman’s Life Chapter 820 meets monthly, and it is custom to bring all fundraising ideas to chapter members.

“This has been in the works since March,” she said. “We have done fashion shows for The Arc of St. Clair County, teas for many years for KIDS and other types of fundraisers to benefit the citizens of St. Clair County.”

She said she hopes to see more than 100 people come out to the fashion show.

“Our chapter is anticipating the excitement of the attendees and their contributions, knowing they will be helping children who would not have a Christmas,” she said.

The St. Clair Golf Club is located at 1714 River Road in St. Clair. Tickets cost $40. For more information or to purchase tickets, call Wilton at 810-385-9040 or Valorie Hudgens at 810-989-9144 or visit facebook.com/womanslife820mi.
