Grand Strand sports bars prepare as football season kicks off

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina kicked off their football season on Thursday. Saturday was full of college ball, and the NFL returns in just a few days.

With so much happening in the world of football, local sports bars are preparing for an increase in customers.

Jason Morrow, a bartender at Drifters in Myrtle Beach said they see an increase in customers.

“It helps a lot, but again, especially being a local bar, we’re pretty busy every night. But football season definitely helps,” Morrow said.

Scott Pennington is the General Manager at Chimichanga Llama in Surfside Beach.

They see an increase too and they try to bring people in.

“We do some specials. We do nacho specials and different food specials. And again, it excites everyone in the community,” Pennington said.

His favorite part though, is the people.

“The people are great. So you’re able to enjoy the game in a good atmosphere, have fun, eat, drink, and enjoy the game,” he said.

Morrow said Drifters is very similar.

“It’s always a fun atmosphere in here. We get pretty competitive,” he said.

Drifters is an official Browns Backers viewing location, giving them a bit of a different audience than Chimichanga Llama, which focuses more on the South Carolina rivalries.

Either way, both men say you can’t go wrong!

“We’re down in Surfside, the pier’s right here, you’ve got the ocean right here, we’re showing all the games, we’ve got specials going on, it’s just a great place to hang out, relax with the family,” Pennington said.

“It’s a good place, I’ve been here two years, I thought I was gonna leave, but I’m still here,” Morrow said.are

Two different atmospheres. but both are perfect for some gameday rivalry.
